BARCELO SOLYMAR BEACH RESORT

Varadero Cuba was a last minute decision. We hadn’t planned to go. But stranded in Cuba due to Hurricane Wilma with no flights out and our accommodation in Cancun damaged anyway, we had an extra week to stay. Due to the weather we decided the “ all inclusive” deals at a resort were our best option.

We preferred not to stay in Havana where we had done most things. For insurance purposes we decided the “ all inclusive” deals at a resort were our best option.

Marielle on the desk at Hotel Inglaterra was fantastic. She came up with a good deal, organised transport, and we were off to Varadero's Barcelo Solymar Beach Resort.

If this is the kind of holiday or vaction you enjoy, this was a good resort to stay at. Set in very spacious, tree filled grounds, there were two swimming pools, several restaurants with different kinds of food – Chinese, Spanish restaurants and a Cuban buffet with a huge range of different hot and cold foods. Many were cooked while you waited.

Cocktails and wine were unlimited. It is surprising how quickly

We were upgraded from an apartment, to a very pleasant two bedroom bungalow, set amongst the trees, with just a short walk to the white sandy beach. There was certainly plenty to do in the way of activities.

Language lessons, dancing, volleyball and various other organised sports including skydiving, scuba diving and snorkelling, deep sea fishing and golf. None of which we could do, as the beach was closed due to the weather.

We walked to various other of resorts in the area and sampled their pools. Had a wander around the Plaza America shopping mall and just relaxed. There was a library of books, and the beach with BBQ was only a few metres walk.

ENJOY THIS VIDEO OF "VARADERO CUBA"

This is a side of Cuba rather different with huge luxurious complexes for the plane loads who arrive fro their packages holidays from UK and Canada. If you are a traveller it may not be your scene. But for many who want a fully "all inclusive " holiday in Cuba this is just the place.
