Traditional Czech cuisine !

OUTDOOR EATING IN CESKY KRUMLOV RESTAURANT
Unfortunately Czech food is not great for those on a diet! Unless perhaps the Atkins Diet. The many Czech restaurants mostly serve national dishes which are light on vegetables, and rich in protein.
CZECH CUISINE Czech Food is high in protein with meat and cheese eaten for at least two meals........ and often three times daily. - Potatoes is a main staple, but generally vegetables are not plentiful in Czech cuisine.
- Cucumber is one of the most used vegetables - try their delicious cucumber salad!
- Many meals have rich creamy sauces.
- Meat portions are usually substantial. Pork and chicken are the main meats. Although there is also plenty of beef. One very delicious traditional dish is BBQ’d on a long skewer. Meats of different sorts, along with a variety of vegetables are threaded onto the skewer and slowly rotisseried. Delicious!
- If you are visiting for Christmas expect to have Carp(fish) and coleslaw for a traditional Christmas dinner.
- Breakfast is high protein with ham, salami and meats, cheese, yoghurt, and fresh bread rolls. Lunch and dinner can both be more like main meals .
- Fried cheese was an interesting and a very delicious lunch that usually came with a small salad.
SOME TRADITIONAL CZECH DISHES Czech Food you MUST try! The pancakes and dumplings are delicious sweet treats! - Palincinky ( pancakes)– filled with fruit or cottage cheese
- Knedliky – (dumplings )a yeast based sweet or savoury dumpling, filled with cottage cheese, plums or other fruit
- Redcurrants and Blackcurrants are plentiful in season.
- Gulag – Goulash – very much like the Hungarian dish from which it is derived.
- Potatoes of any sort, and rice are eaten in big quantities.
You will find after a few days, the food gets a bit monotonous. The restaurants do not have the different ethnic variety of many countries. So they are serving the same traditional Czech fare. There are some Italian, pizza, Chinese and the odd ethnic restaurant. But they are few and far between.
Czech Restaurant Etiquette
- Meals are started with people saying “Dobra Chut (hawch) - much like "Bon Apetite."
- You may share a table with strangers if there are spare seats. This is normal.
- Tipping is not usual, but round up the price
Czech Beer !
Czech beer is cheaper than water and according to beer drinkers the best you can get anywhere in the world. They didn’t need much prompting to take a break at any of the numerous small bars. Many people drink carbonated mineral water. For those of you who love the brown stuff, you will know the internationally acclaimed Czech Beer and will be looking forward to enjoying a few pints. You can visit breweries around the country.Prague and Plzen both have good brewery tours. There are so many I am not going to make a list. You can look for all your information in this.
